WELCOME

This project began by me making a painting/drawing/collage, or whatever medium/material I decided, every day for 30 days. NO forward planning. However, I now post other pieces of work that I do. I am sure I will do another set of 30 in 30 at some point - it is a great project to get the creative process going again after a stagnant period of time.

Homework

The second in the series of 5 blind continuous line drawings.  This was of my son doing his homework.  People are always the most fun to draw because the results can be really funny.

Tuesday 2 November 2010

Yellow Rose

The next 5 pictures were done using a technique called 'blind continuous line drawing'.  This is where the artist uses one continuous line (not lifting the pen off the paper until finished) and cannot see what he/she is drawing but only observing the object.  It is really good fun and I am always surprised by the results.  I added a little colour to them, just to make them a little more interesting to the eye.

The Exhibition

Done from an exhibition I went to recently, the people are silhouetted against the paintings.  The artist is in red - you know who you are...

The Green Witch

Continuing the Halloween theme for today.

Halloween

Following on from my 'rooftops' painting (done sometime ago).  I included a bat for Halloween.

Streetcar Desire, Sa Pobla

This is an old tram (streetcar) which sits rusting away on a small industrial site in Sa Pobla, Mallorca.  It has the name Desire.

Cabbage Farmers

Well, I cheated today because I had to prepare for my first English client and found it impossible to find time to sit and draw/paint today.  This one I did last year and will be added into the new series anyway.

Old Cart

This is the first one in the series.  An old cart under a tree in the Mallorcan sun.  The photo isn't great as my camera is out of battery, so this is a mobile phone shot!

The Postcard Series

The start of a new series of daily paintings.

It's good to be painting again after such a long break.  This series are postcard size and so will all be the same size, however, I am not putting a time constraint on them as some are more intricate than others.

This series came from the idea I begun in the Summer of 2009.  I started a couple of little paintings similar to this using watercolour/pen/inks etc and decided that they would be the next 30 in 30.  Many of them will probably be of places/areas in Mallorca we will have to wait and see.

Kite Surfing II

The start of a fresh new year.

It has taken me 7 months to pick up a paint brush here at home - the previous rainforest painting was done in Mallorca in the summer of 2009.

I have FINALLY finished a painting I began in May last year (09). It is a diptych (although not hinged) and a larger version of a previous kite surfing painting that I sold in December 2008.

This is a larger version of 'The Canopy' - one of the 30 paintings in 30 days series.
I decided to do a series of larger paintings and this one was done in Mallorca whilst on holiday with my family.

Waterfall

Waterfall
40.7cm x 51cm (16in x 20in)

After setting up my easel two days ago, I still had no idea what to paint, so on went the background and hey presto!! I enjoy the 'not knowing what the hell I'm going to paint' feeling.
It has been a long time since my last post and I am still concentrating on the hairdressing course, but I hope as I get to grips with it more, I will be able to find the odd moment to splash paint about again - I miss it.

Current bits n bobs!

Hi All,
I haven't posted for awhile, but I am working on a few pieces whilst training as a hairdresser in London - hence the lack of work posted recently. There should be a post in the next week or so.

A Moonlit Night

Acrylic on ply
34 x 11.5cm
Just a quick pic today on a long thin piece of board, a slight variation from yesterday's one and the prelim to another coming soon. Beginning to run out of paint, so may have to do some pastels/water-colours again until I manage to stock up!!

Roof Tops

23cm x 30.5cm
Acrylic on Canvas

This was originally a different piece of work that I began recently, but it turned out to be not as great as I was expecting so I turned it into rooftops by moonlight instead. Quite abstract with a couple of pusscats thrown in for good measure.

Kite Surfing, Tarifa, Spain

SOLD

34cm x 16cm

Acrylic on plywood

After a brief but fab visit to the most southernly tip of Spain, I felt inspired by the area to do the above painting. There is an almost constant wind in Tarifa and because of this it is one of the worlds best places to go kite surfing. There were hundreds of kite surfers flying over the waves of the Atlantic Ocean.

"Tarifa has two prevailing winds, the south easterly known as the Levante and the westerly known as the Poniente. This is because of the mountain ranges on either side of the straits which not only bends other winds but also acts as a funnel, intensifying it. " http://www.tarifa.net/site/html/wind/main_wind.html?lingua=02&percorso=3&livello=302

The water was wonderful - once you were in!! and great fun jumping the waves. You can see Morrocco from Tarifa and also the Atlas Mountains of North Africa. Morrocco is only 14KM from Tarifa and takes 30 mins by ferry.

What happens next???

I have now completed two projects - paintings/drawings & it's a really great feeling to know I have now completed these. I am going to continue but with a difference for awhile...

... I am currently doing some training which is taking quite a lot of time & thought up. We are also trying to find somewhere else to live among many other plans, therefore, I have decided to continue with my artwork but on a different scale. I am going to make a start on some pieces I have wanted to do for some time so there will not be a post everyday. I have no idea how often I will post but please keep checking back. I will try for at least one per week, but don't hold your breath, some of the pieces I wish to do are going to take quite some time to implement. Thank you to all of you who have been keeping up with my projects. STAY TUNED...

Midday Meditation

31cm x 19cm
Pastel & pen

This is the LAST ONE! in the second '30 paintings in 30 days' project. Today we decided to have a bit of fun with Colin (my partner). I decided I wanted to do one of him meditating in his new reading glasses! Instead of the usual jeans & t-shirt he was wearing I drew him in a bright orange kaftan (artistic licence!). I have to say this one is not a great likeness of him but not far off and it was great fun to do.

1 day old.

31cm x 19cm
Watercolour & pen

1 day old. Don't really need to say any more about this one, although it didn't turn out quite how I'd planned. There probably won't be one tomorrow as I am in London all day, but there should be one on Friday - lets hope. Only a couple more to go before the end of this drawing project.

OH NO!!! No picture today

Sorry folks! no picture today. The hours got away from me & suddenly it is 7.30pm & I am about to collapse (after cooking some dinner) on the sofa for an hour or so before bed. I have been racing about all day & am now looking after an unwell little boy - hopefully he will be ok tomorrow!....
Another picture tomorrow, we hope.

Drawing

25cm x 25cm
watercolour & pen

I was going to do another spiritual figure today, but it was all a bit of a strain! so here is my son drawing on his bed. He has to do a drawing every time I do one!

Well I am gradually catching up, after missing a week due to illness, & only have 4 more to do, so then the 30 drawings will be a completed set. What to do next? not sure yet, possibly back to acrylics but perhaps some larger pieces on board, I love to work in acrylic, it's my favourite medium at the moment so I want to get back to that, although I have really enjoyed using pastels etc for this group. I have some ideas for several larger pieces of work, so it maybe that I just do a piece a week or every few days rather than posting one every day! we shall see... Anyway I still have a few more of these to do. I hope you are all enjoying them. Ciao.x
